Located in southeastern Johnson County, in the heart of the Kansas City metropolitan area, the Blue Valley School District encompasses 91 square miles and has 34 schools: five high schools (grades 9-12), nine middle schools (grades 6-8) and 20 elementary schools (grades K-5).

Over the last 10 years, Environmental Mechanical has successfully completed numerous projects with the District, including this select list:  

BLUE VALLEY MAJOR MECHANICAL 2008
Environmental Mechanical served as the Prime contractor on this 100,000 square foot project which consisted of 2 separate school buildings in the District, Oak Hill Elementary and Stanley Elementary.

We replaced the HVAC systems, all fluorescent lighting from T12 bulb fixtures to T8 fixtures, and constructed two new additions to each school, along with completely removing all ceilings and demountable wall partitions.

EMC was given a tight schedule, June 1st to August 1s, and was able to complete the entire scope of work including complete carpet replacement, complete fire alarm replacement and additional concrete work, on schedule and within budget. 

BLUE VALLEY MAJOR MECHANICAL 2009 - DISTRICT OFFICE 
The overall goal on this project, located at the District Office at 150th and Metcalf and completed in 6 phases, was to update the facility with a new, energy efficient HVAC system. 

EMC removed the HVAC system in its entirety.  Ceilings and lighting were removed to allow demolition of existing system as well as reinstallation of new duct work and piping. Energy efficient RTUs and a variable refrigerant system were installed.

As the prime contractor, EMC selected and supervised subcontractors for the general construction portion of this project including: drywall, painting, concrete, electrical, controls, roofing, crane hoisting and fire alarms. The entire building remained occupied during construction.

BLUE VALLEY MAJOR MECHANICAL 2010 – LEAWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL 
Energy efficiency was a key objective for this project at Leawood Middle School.  which consisted of removing existing HVAC equipment and replacing it with new energy efficient equipment, VAV air handlers and individual VAV boxes that allow each class room to regulate its own temperatures.

The new system improves energy efficiency and features displacement air technology.  Displacement air technology introduces fresh air into the area of a room where people breathe.  As warm air rises, stale air is exhausted through the ceiling. 
 
As the prime contractor, EMC complied with an extremely tight schedule on the project, with all work completed during a 2-month time frame from June 2010 to August 2010.  Coordinated electrical shutdowns were necessary to replace electrical gear while maintaining power for the trades onsite to continue working to meet the tight schedule.
