No Easy Task
After weeks of planning and coordinating, Environmental Mechanical project manager Steve Van Niewenhuyse and Foreman Paul Van Niewenhuyse along with 6 crew members were working hard on Saturday, May 30 to get mechanical equipment lifted onto the roof at 1006 Grand.
Four 3,000lb pressurization fans were lifted 17 stories and placed delicately on top of 1006 Grand. The pressurization fans will be used to pressurize the building in the case of a fire, thereby creating safe passage out of the building via the stair wells.
During the lift Grand Avenue was shut down southbound for 12 hrs. Coordination between EMC and public transportation kept traffic running smoothly during the process.
This design/build project to renovate the 1006 Grand office building has been underway since late 2009. Originally known as The Gates Building, the 17 story building is being renovated into modern loft apartments. EMC is successfully meeting an accelerated schedule on this project and is scheduled for completion in September 2010.
